Petioles stout, 1-1.5 cm long. Flowers born singly or in clusters in leaf axils, creamy white, 15 mm wide, corolla with 8 narrow lobes, each divided again into 3 lobes. Pedicel 4-8 cm long. Fruit ovoid, yellow to orange, 3-5 cm in diameter, seeds 1-2. A sapote that is native to the Comoros islands and parts of Madagascar. Bears a yellow ripening fruit, with edible, chalky textured pulp. Popular as an ornamental in tropical gardens, both for its fruits but also for its attractive foliage.
