Tocoyena Bullata - Chocolate Fruit
Seeds were imported from Brazil. This specie is native and endemic to the coastal restinga forest, occurring from the state of Bahia to São Paulo, Brazil. It grows as a bush or branched tree, 1 to 3.5 meters, or 3 to 11 feet tall, with single or multiple branched base. The fruits taste like chocolate, and are very good to eat out of hand. The tree is deciduous (loosing its leaves at the end of winter, flowering without leaves) and small in size, which is why it is very good for being grown in large gardens. It is also very ornamental with its large foliage and white flowers. The fruits start out green, before turning black and rough when fully ripe. Seeds will be shipped in humid vermiculite, and a few are already germinating.
