Pouteria sp. "Hairy"
Seeds were imported from Brazil. This is an exciting new Pouteria with numerous extensions on skin resembling hairs, like a Ramboutan or a Pedalai fruit. It grows wild in Central Bahia at a region named Chapada Diamantina and it seems to be in the same species complex as Pouteria gallifructa and P. tuberculata. However, Pouteria sp. Hairy is reported to have a higher percentage of melting, deliciously sweet pulp. It is said to have more pulp than both Pouteria gallifructa and P. tuberculata. This is a great specie for any Sapotaceae collector. Seeds are shipped in humid vermiculite.
