Plinia clausa “Huitoto”
Seeds were imported from Colombia. Plinia clausa "Huitoto" is a suspected variation of the renowned and highly sought-after Plinia clausa. While there is no officially registered variation, the interest in this fruit grew after it was shared on social media, prompting a few of our customers to request that we source it and offer it for sale. This variety was discovered in the Colombian Amazon, where it is protected by the indigenous Huitoto people, who consume it as fresh fruit. The fruit of this variation is reported to be smaller in size but has a slightly better flavor, and each tree is said to produce thousands of fruits. While we have not yet tried or seen this fruit ourselves, we did notice that the seeds are smaller when compared to the typical Plinia clausa we have been sources for years. The climate in Colombia's Amazon region is tropical, and this variety of Plinia clausa thrives in similar conditions to USDA hardiness zones 10-11, where temperatures remain mild and frost is rare, making it suitable for cultivation in warm, frost-free regions.
Seeds are sold in 1 seed packs. Seeds are shipped in humid vermiculite.
