This fruit is widely distributed throughout Brazil, but occurs at low frequency in gallery forest biomes and in transition to the cerrado. native to several forest ecosystems, appearing in Pará and Maranhão to the state of São Paulo, northern Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil and Paraguay. Medium-sized tree, reaching 4m to 8m tall, forming a crown with many side branches, shaped like an umbrella; with light brown cylindrical trunk and lenticular bark (with glands similar to fish scale). The young branches are compressed laterally, and are light gray in color. This species has no thorns. Like all rubiaceae, this one also has stipules (type of modified leaf) deciduous and triangular in shape, 5 to 6mm of length. This species can be found in Brazil fruiting from March to May. The fruit measures from 2-4 cm and has a warty, white bark when fully mature. The pulp is white (resembles the taste of coconut milk) and involves only one seed. They are great for fresh consumption. They can also be pulped and used in the form of juices, jellies and ice cream. Seeds will be shipped in humid vermiculite.
