Geonoma Fiscellaria - 5 SEED PACK

$40.00

Seeds were imported from Brazil. Geonoma fiscellaria, commonly known as Uricurana, is a clumping palm species, rarely solitary, growing 2.5–4.5 meters tall with ringed, woody stems approximately 4 cm in diameter, typically forming small clusters. It has 7–14 contemporaneous, regularly pinnate leaves with sheaths measuring 18–22 × 4–9 cm, petioles 53–81 × 0.8 cm, and rachises 61–63 cm long, each side featuring 11–15 pinnae. The midsection of the rachis measures 38–42 cm × 2.0–2.5 cm, with terminal pinnae exceeding 10 cm in length and fused at the base. Reddish inflorescences emerge at ground level between leaf bases, with bracts 18–20 × 6.0–8.5 cm, and the fruiting stalk measures 26–28 × 1.3–2.0 cm, holding black, ellipsoid fruits 1.6 × 1.4 cm. Found in the understory of the Atlantic Forest in Rio de Janeiro, at approximately 700 meters altitude, it thrives in well-drained soil. This ornamental species is ideal for shaded gardens and indoor decoration, with its leaves commonly used in floral arrangements. Fruiting occurs in summer, producing about 1 kilogram (4,200 seeds), though germination is slow and irregular, and transplanting seedlings is challenging due to their slow growth. Seeds are sold in packs of 5. Seeds are shipped in humid vermiculite.
