Eugenia Multicostata var. "Octocostata Verde"
Seeds were imported from Brazil. Beautiful tree highlighted by its intensely red-orange trunk, similar to the well-known Brazilwood (Paubrasilia echinata), as can be seen in the photos. It is closely related to Eugenia multicostata, of which some botanists consider it a subspecies. Its fruits differ from those because they have only 8 ribs, and because they are lighter, but they are equally tasty. The fruits can be consumed raw, but their pulp is not very moist and their flavor is similar to guava peel, and can be better used in the form of sweets. The tree is very ornamental, and can be used as a prominent element in large gardens, or in the afforestation of wide avenues. This is a very rare variation of the normal octocostata that produces green fruits even when fully ripe! Seeds are viable and will be shipped in humid vermiculite.
