Seeds were imported from Brazil. species with irregular distribution, appearing in alluvial plains and always in primary forest, occurring in the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Espirito Santo, and southern Bahia, Brazil. large tree, 5 to 12 m tall, with a cylindrical crown, 3 to 5 m in diameter and a cylindrical trunk, with reticulated bark (like a net), olive-brown in color. The leaves are obovate (egg-shaped and with the widest part at the apex), spiraled, papyraceous (like paper), pubescent when young, 10 to 23 cm long by 3.5 to 9.5 cm wide with a rounded base and apiculate apex (short tip). The species can be easily identified by observing the spiral distribution of the leaves, and shoots with 3 to 4 filiform stipules (type of leaf modified like a line) with 8 to 10 mm in length. The tree can be grown in squares or large gardens, and is essential for reforestation, as its fruits feed various animals such as monkeys, tapirs, agoutis, pacas and coatis. The fruits are very tasty, with a taste reminiscent of a mix of papaya, melon and orange. This is why it is a very promising species for selecting cultivars so that family farmers can plant and sell the beautiful, tasty and durable fruits. When pulped, the fruits show a yield of 35 to 45% pulp, which can be used to make juices, mousses, ice creams, among other recipes. Seeds are shipped in humid vermiculite.
