Tree of 6to 8 meters tall, with a whitish gray trunk measuring30 to 40 cm in diameter. The new branches are ferrugine (rust-colored) and tomentose (covered with fine fluff). The leaves are simple, broadly ovate (egg-shaped) with a short orange-colored petiole or stem measuring0.8 to 1.5 cm long with indumentum (or velvet-like hairs) of a rusty color. The fruits are very tasty for fresh consumption and the seeds are easy to remove from the pulp. The fruits can also be pulped and the pulp frozen to make jams, yogurts with curdled milk, mousses, ice creams, juices and jellies. The fruits have a medium- thick skin and are resistant to handling; in addition, they can be kept for about 8 days after harvesting in cool places and for more than 25 days in refrigerators. Seeds are shipped in humid vermiculite.
