Chondodendron platyphyllum (Atlantic Rainforest Grape) is a member of the Menispermaceae family. It can be found living on forest edge (of Atlantic Rainforest in Southeastern Brazil) as a beautiful climbing vine. Its leaves look like those of a Grape vine but deep silvery underneath. The fruits grow in bunches, black with red pulp when fully mature. In spite of being sweet and nice, not more than a single one should be eaten at once, as the plant present alkaloids that are used to treat several diseases. The part with highest alkaloids concentration are the roots, from which medicinal herbal tea is prescribed against several maladies. This fruit is not very edible, and the plant is grown for the roots.
