Protium Heptaphyllum

Seeds were imported from Brazil. Protium heptaphyllum is an evergreen tree with a large, dense crown; it can grow 10 - 20 meters tall. The bole is 40 - 60cm in diameter. The plant is harvested from the wild for local use, especially for its resin, but also as a food, medicine and source of wood. It is sometimes cultivated for the edible fruits and the resin, and the resin is sometimes exported. An ornamental plant, it can be used in urban and rural planting schemes. The pulp is eaten out of hand. It has a sweet flavor and enjoyed fresh.. The fruit can also be made into a drink. Seeds are shipped in humid vermiculite.
