Artocarpus Odoratissimus

Seeds were imported from Indonesia. Marang is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 25 meters tall. The straight, cylinfrical bole is up to 50cm in diameter, sometimes with low buttresses. The fruit is highly valued within the plant's native range, and it is commonly gathered from the wild for local use. The tree is also occasionally cultivated in southeast Asia and the Philippines. It has also been introduced into S. America. As one of the most highly praised fruits in the genus, it is puzzling why marang is not widely grown. The ripe fruits are fleshy, aromatic, sweet and juicy - similar to the jackfruit (A. heterophyllus) but of much better quality. Usually eaten as a dessert fruit, they are considered to be the finest fruit in Brunei.
